The importance of having a community cannot be understated. When communities band together to achieve a common goal, the results are nothing short of spectacular. The It’s Time Texas Community Challenge brought communities together and pushed people toward their fitness goals.
Over the course of the 8-week challenge, 441 Texas communities competed for points and the chance to win a grant for health-related efforts. Participants accumulated millions of points in their pursuit of fitness and healthy living (and won some individual prizes along the way).

How Plano Fared in the Community Challenge
Though Plano didn’t win a grant, we finished fifth in the “large community” category with more than 900,000 points. More than 450 community members registered and participated in the challenge.
Did you participate? Let us know how you did, what you learned, and how the Community Challenge changed your life.
What Did You Learn?
For those of you who participated, did you meet your goals? Don’t worry, you don’t have to tell us, but we hope you learned something about yourself in the process. Even the smallest changes can have a positive, lasting effect on your health.
When you’re busy with work and family, it’s tough to make time for fitness. It’s easier to grab a fast (unhealthy) meal or skip the gym to run errands or catch up on sleep. Instead of sacrificing your health for the sake of saving a few minutes, try making some other changes to your day to reclaim that time.
Meal prep on the weekends so you have a variety of healthy meals for the week, including snacks you can grab on the run.
When running local errands, try biking instead of driving.
Switch up your daily commute. Instead of driving yourself, try public transit, cycling to work, or join a carpool.
Walk wherever and whenever you can. It only takes a few extra minutes to choose the stairs over the elevator or park at the back of a lot.
If you switched up your commute by taking public transit, biking, walking, or joining a carpool, let us know! We love hearing from our commuters!
